Wellfleet Police Officer Resigns After Uproar

police carWELLFLEET – A Wellfleet police officer accused of aggressive behavior has resigned amidst public scrutiny.

Residents in town had submitted a petition to town officials complaining about the actions of officer Robert Burns and asking for a review.

Citizens complained about what they considered aggressive and heavy-handed behavior. Sharon Lindsey was behind the petition and said the officer’s tactics did not mesh with Wellfleet.

Burns’ arrest of two people after a traffic stop was the impetus for the petition.

Lindsey said she was pleased with the reaction and cooperation of town and police officials. Some residents are working to establish a community liaison between the police department and citizens.
