West Yarmouth Man Convicted of Armed Assault with Intent to Kill

GavelBARNSTABLE – A West Yarmouth man was convicted Monday of armed assault with intent to kill and other charges stemming from a December 2012 incident at Covell’s Beach in Centerville.

Judge Cornelius Moriarty sentenced Elton Sanches, 22, to eight to 10 years in prison for beating a man with a gun causing permanent disfigurement.

Sanches shot one round at the victim but missed.

After the gun jammed, Sanches attacked the man with the gun in the head and face.

Sanches, who is not a US citizen, will serve his sentence at the Massachusetts Criminal Institution Cedar Junction in Walpole and awaits US immigration consequences.

The case was investigated by the Barnstable Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Sharon Thibeault.
