Atlantic White Shark Conservancy: White shark “Hunter”
CHATHAM – The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy kicked off field work for the 2017 research season on June 15.
Data from multiple receivers off Chatham were downloaded and three previously tagged white sharks were detected between June 2 and June 15.
Pilot Wayne Davis also spotted a white shark off Monomoy of what appeared to be a small shark. It moved into deeper waters before the research team could arrive.
The team will be on the week again later this week.
“Scratch,” “Keelie,” and WS17829 were the first tagged white sharks to return to Chatham.
The white shark “Hunter,” tagged over the winter off South Carolina by Captain Chip Michalove, working with Dr. Greg Skomal and John Chiholm of the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries, is making his way north.
