TRURO – Two notable figures in Cape Cod politics have endorsed Democrat Julian Cyr for Cape and Islands State Senate.

Outgoing Senator Dan Wolf and Provincetown State Rep. Sarah Peake are backing Cyr ahead of his general election contest with Republican Tony Schiavi.

In his endorsement, Wolf said Cyr believes in the common good.

“We need someone who will seek out the voices of every day people, listen to their needs, build consensus and fight for affordability for seniors and families,” said Wolf.

“Julian is the only candidate in the race with a public health background, so he knows how to fight for those who are struggling with addiction,” Wolf added.

Peake cited Cyr’s work on the vibrio crisis and the upcoming decommissioning of the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Plant as major reasons for her support.

“It was under [Cyr’s] guidance that regulations were developed and adopted to address the vibrio crisis that threatened both public health and the viability of our shellfish industry,” Peake said. “Today, we can all eat and enjoy oysters and the aquaculture industry is thriving on the Cape.

Cyr defeated Barnstable County Commissioner Sheila Lyons in the primary election. Schiavi topped Barnstable Town Councilor Jim Crocker in the Republican contest.

Election Day is November 8.
