Woods Hole Film Festival Announces 2017 Line-Up

WOODS HOLE – The Woods Hole Film Festival has announced the line-up of its 26th edition, which runs Saturday, July 29 through Saturday, August 5.

The oldest film festival on Cape Cod and the Islands will show more than 130 films at five different venues in Woods Hole and Falmouth.

Of the films, 52 are narrative and documentary features and 81 are narrative, documentary, and animated shorts—from everywhere from Mashpee to Maine and South Africa to Sri Lanka.

“We’re trying to become a year-round place where independent film can be happening on Cape Cod,” said festival founder and director Julie Laster.

Most films include Q&A’s with the more than 100 filmmakers and other special guests attending the festival.

Panel discussions about contemporary issues in film and society, master classes, and parties with live music each night round out the festivities.

The festival received nearly 1,000 submissions from around the world, from both first-time and veteran filmmakers.

“Chasing Choral”, a documentary by director Jeff Orlowski, kicks off the festival on July 29.

Music will also play a big role at the event, with a trio of documentaries about some of rock and roll’s biggest names, including Joe Crocker and Paul Butterfield.

With a number of film festivals held across the Cape each year, Laster believes that the Woods Hole event is very special.

“Woods Hole is a very walkable village and so everybody can see each other and have the opportunity to speak to each other in a very intimate and casual setting,” said Laster. “I think that really is what helps make the festival feel its festivity.”

Admission to screenings, panels and parties is $14, $12 for festival members and for more information, go to woodsholefilmfestival.org.
