Wrong Number Leads To Heroin Bust

heroin02BOURNE – A wrong number resulted in the arrest of three men on charges of dealing heroin on Cape Cod.

Orleans Detective Sergeant Andrew McLaughlin received several unprompted phone calls and text messages on an Orleans Police Department cell phone from a man asking if he wanted to buy narcotics.

The texts and phone calls were made referring to Sergeant McLaughlin as “Mike.”

McLaughlin kept his identity secret and arranged a meeting at the Dunkin Donuts parking lot near the Bourne Rotary.

Police say the meeting took place Thursday night at 8 p.m. in the parking lot.

The meeting resulted in the arrest of Santiago Garza, 34, of Woonsocket, Rhode Island, David Marin, 34, of Milford and Joseph Gately, 46, of Medfield.

All three were charged with possession of heroin with intent to distribute, and conspiracy to violate drug laws. They were held on bail and arraigned in Falmouth District Court Friday morning.

Assisting in the investigation and arrest was Orleans Patrol Investigator Daniel Elliott, members of the Massachusetts State Police Cape Cod Task Force, and Detective John Doble of the Bourne Police Department.
