WAREHAM – State Police arrested a Buzzards Bay man last night in Wareham on multiple charges including allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol after he was pulled over for driving the wrong way on I-495.
James Burgess, 39, was arrested and charged with OUI Alcohol, Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Accident, Open Container of Alcohol, Wrong Way Operation and Illegal U-Turn.
Around 9:45, State Police were notified of a Ford Fusion traveling south on the northbound side of the interstate in the town of Carver.
State Police said the Fusion driven by Burgess sideswiped a Toyota Corolla which swerved to avoid the oncoming vehicle.
The Corolla was being driven by Carla Carvalho-Roma, 37, of Taunton, and had two child passengers.
There were no injuries reported as a result of that crash.
Burgess continued traveling the wrong way into Wareham where I-495 becomes Route 25.
According to State Police, the Fusion made a U-turn as a State Police cruiser approached with flashing lights and pulled over near exit 1.
