YARMOUTH- A 17-year-0ld juvenile was charged after Yarmouth Police say he and a friend were traveling recklessly and crashed their vehicle before leaving the scene last night.
Around 7:17 p.m., Yarmouth police were called to the area of Berry Avenue and Silver Leaf Lane in West Yarmouth for an erratic operations report of a dark blue sport utility vehicle with Florida license plates.
While responding, police received information that the suspect motor vehicle had left the road on several occasions and was last seen traveling at a very high rate of speed on Silver Leaf Lane and then Tabor Road before wrecking and rolling over several times and coming to rest at the intersection of Exeter Road and Tabor Road.
Witnesses reported two male occupants of the suspect vehicle were able to free themselves from the wreckage and run from the scene.
Police arriving on scene observed a blue Ford Expedition bearing Florida license plates.
The vehicle had extensive damage which included a debris field over 100 feet long which consisted of various vehicle parts and the contents from the interior of the vehicle.
Based on the massive amount of damage, as well as the presence of blood in the vehicle, it was apparent that the two occupants who fled the scene were most likely injured.
Additional Yarmouth Police officers and members of the Barnstable-Yarmouth Street Crime Unit arrived and began an extensive search of the area with the assistance of Yarmouth Police K9 Units.
After Yarmouth Police identified the owner of the vehicle, they were able to track the owner at a nearby motel who reported that his 17-year-0ld son had the vehicle.
Yarmouth Police met with the son and his friend at the motel and the son admitted to being the driver of the vehicle.
Both were transported to Cape Cod Hospital for medical treatment.
The 17-year-old driver was charged with the following non-arrestable past dismeanor criminal violations: Operating a Motor Vehicle Negligently so as to Endanger, Leaving the Scene of a Crash that caused Property Damage , Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle
