Yarmouth Police To Give Free Safe Ride Home on New Year’s Eve

taxiYARMOUTH – Yarmouth police will be offering revelers a free safe ride home New Year’s Eve, an annual tradition meant to keep drunk drivers off the streets.

Operation Safe Ride Home starts at 6 p.m. Wednesday, December 31 and ends at 3 a.m. on Thursday, January 1.

Any citizen who needs a free and safe ride home from a Yarmouth licensed liquor establishment should call Town Taxi directly at 508-775-5555.

Yarmouth police say they are encouraging all Yarmouth drivers and other Cape Cod drivers to look out for each other.

“Don’t let others drive drunk, and don’t tolerate those who do, or ride with them. Drinking and driving injures or kills a driver every day. This is why no one should drive impaired or ride with anyone who is.  If you see an impaired driver call 911 and help us keep our citizens safe,” states a Yarmouth police press release.

The Yarmouth Police Department has made over 2,000 OUI Arrests in the past 10 years. Yarmouth police also responded to two alcohol related fatalities within 24 hours this past weekend, the press release notes.

Additional Yarmouth police officers will be on patrol New Year’s Eve. “Do not drink and drive and if you need a ride home take advantage of this highly successful program which will provide citizens with a free ride home during this New Year’s Eve,” the release continues,” Yarmouth Police Deputy Chief Steven G. Xiarhos wrote.
