Yarmouth Police Hold 5k Run Sunday

Walking01YARMOUTH – The Yarmouth Police Relief Association and the Yarmouth Police Department will host the Seventh Annual YPD Blue 5k – Run for a Reason on Sunday, May 18.

The run and walk begin at 11 am at the Skipper Restaurant in Bass River.

The run, according to Yarmouth Deputy Chief Steven Xiarhos, is to honor and remember the service and sacrifice of law enforcement officials during National Police Week.

Sunday’s event will include a special recognition ceremony to honor all first responders with special recognition to Boston Fire Department Lt. Edward J. Walsh Jr., Boston Fire Department Firefighter Michael R. Kennedy, and Plymouth Police Officer Gregory Maloney.

The event raises funds for the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial, Yarmouth Police Relief Association, Women of Fishing Families of Cape Cod, Town of Yarmouth Flax Pond Recreation Area Children’s Camp and Town of Yarmouth Senior Center.

The course is a 3.1-mile flat scenic waterfront route along Nantucket Sound and Bass River and will start and end at the Skipper Restaurant at 152 South Shore Drive in Bass River.

Kathy Curran of WCVB Channel 5 News in Boston will serve as the special race emcee.

There will be prizes and awards for top finishers, including fastest male and female police officer, firefighter and military member. Hot dogs and chowder will be provided by the Skipper Restaurant.

Participants and spectators are asked to bring non-perishable food items that will be donated after the race to the Yarmouth Food Pantry.

The race and non-competitive walk are open to people of all ages and fitness levels.
