Yarmouth Police K9 Kennel Plans Moving Forward

KA_Yarmouth_Police station sign_11915YARMOUTH – Plans for the Yarmouth Police Department K9 Kennel Project are moving ahead.

YPD K9 Handlers, members of the Yarmouth Police Foundation and architects met recently to over plans for the new building and a groundbreaking is expected on the new kennel within the next two weeks.

“Having the kennel will allow those officers to house the dogs, get them out of the cars, put them into the kennel while they’re at the station doing reports or meetings or whatever they have to do,” said Yarmouth Police Foundation Treasurer Bruce Wilson.

The building will cost up to $15,000 and donations have been accepted from the public to help fund the facility.

The new kennel will be located next to the police department and will be within a secured area.

“It’s much more comfortable for the dogs and plus it’s going to save a lot of wear and tear on three of our vehicles that the K9 officers use,” said Wilson.

Yarmouth Police have three canine officers.
