Yarmouth Police Take Armed Naked Man Into Custody

police carYARMOUTH- Yarmouth Police responded to a call on Tuesday evening of a man who had locked himself in an apartment bathroom and was destroying it.

When police arrived on scene, they attempted to make contact with the 31-year-old man, who then told police that he was the devil and needed an exorcism to be performed by himself.

After several minutes of negotiation, the man opened the door and walked out into the hallway where officers observed the man covered with blood running down his left leg from a self-inflicted stab wound located just below his buttocks.

While standing in the hallway, the man confronted officers while holding the knife in his left hand, while police ordered him to drop the knife.

The man then dropped the knife, took a step forward and laid on his stomach.

While attempting to take the man into protective custody and transport him to Cape Cod Hospital, he refused, pulled away, and lunged forward toward a china cabinet, filled with glass objects.

A patrol officer deployed his taser on the man who continued to remain combative and rose to his knees grabbing and knocking over the China cabinet, smashing glass objects to the ground, according to Yarmouth Police.

A second taser was deployed on the man which brought compliance and he was taken into custody.

Once he was secured, the Yarmouth Fire Department responded to the scene and his self-inflicted knife wound was treated.

The man was transported to Cape Cod Hospital for treatment of his wounds and psychological evaluation.

One officer was injured in the incident.
