YARMOUTH – The Yarmouth community came together on Saturday to pick up trash and clean the town.
The Yarmouth Chamber of Commerce hosted the annual “Clean Up Day”, where volunteers found spots throughout the town, wore safety vests and carried trash bags in an effort to beautify the area.
“It’s great participating in a community activity where a lot of the people from the town feel they care about Yarmouth and they’re all participating and it makes us feel good,” said Joe Potzka, a member of the Yarmouth Rotary.
For over three hours, the participants took part in the event, before they headed to Town Hall for an appreciation lunch.
Yarmouth resident Erik Hunter said that he wants the town to look perfect before the tourism season gets started.
“We want to put a good face on Yarmouth so that when people show up here, they feel comfortable and want to stay,” said Hunter.
While picking up garbage on Old Town House Road, resident Lois Goodrich was happy to see so many people taking part in the occasion.
“It makes me hopeful that other people will see it and decide to help out or that they’ll throw less trash,” said Goodrich.
Organizers held the event to encourage community members and organizations to make a difference in Yarmouth.
