Yarmouth Selectmen Question D-Y Regional School FY18 Budget

YARMOUTH – Yarmouth Selectmen had a chance to question D-Y Regional School District officials about their FY 2018 budget at their meeting on Tuesday night.

The School Committee approved their $58.3 million budget earlier this month, representing a 3.18 percent increase over last year’s budget.

“If we keep going up $1.8 million every year, and 2.5 percent is $1.2 million, it doesn’t work,” said selectman Norman Holcomb. “We got to find a solution in the budget to keep costs in line.”

Yarmouth’s portion of the budget is almost $32 million which is 5.8% more than last year.

With the budget as is, Yarmouth would need a $500,000 override.

“The biggest issue with the budget overall is the fact of sustainability, like what do we do next year,” said selectman Tracy Post.

The budget will go before voters at Town Meeting in Dennis on May 2 and Town Meeting in Yarmouth on May 6.
