West Barnstable’s Hannah Andres, a freshman physical therapy major at Springfield College and 2014 graduate of Barnstable High School, recently completed a fine rookie collegiate season for The Pride. Andres helped lead the Springfield ladies to a 20-11 record this fall. Andres, who captained Barnstable High her senior year (2013-14) to an incredible 4th straight Massachusetts Div. 1 State Volleyball Championship title, played in 29 matches for The Pride this fall as an outside hitter. She is the daughter of Dr. Loretta Andres and Cornelius Andres of West Barnstable.

2013 Falmouth High School graduate Aoife Callinan, a two-sport captain for the Clippers in golf and soccer, scored three goals for the Massachusetts Maritime Academy Buccaneers this fall. This was Callinan’s second straight season starting for the Bucs and second season scoring three goals. She is the daughter of John and Brenda Callinan of West Falmouth.

Former Mashpee High School three-sport star (soccer, basketball, track & field) Scott Matoian recently completed his second varsity campaign for the Massachusetts Maritime Academy men’s soccer team where he started in 17 matches this fall. The Bucs were 7-8-2 overall. He is the Son of Peter and Ann Marie Matoian of Mashpee.

2011 Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School graduate and former two-sport Dolphins captain Victor Andrade recently completed an outstanding football career with the Massachusetts Maritime Academy Buccaneers. Andrade, a senior at MMA, was named last week to the 2014 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Football all-conference squad that was announced by the league office earlier today for his performance during the recently completed campaign.

A native of Yarmouth Port, Andrade earned first team all-MASCAC honors at outside linebacker, as he led the Buccaneers with 85 total tackles (64 solo), including a team-leading 16 for losses of 49 yards.  Andrade was the league’s Co-Defensive Player of the Week on September 20th after recording 10 total tackles and forcing a fumble in the second overtime of a 26-20 Admiral’s Cup victory over rival Maine Maritime, and during the year he recorded a pair of forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and four pass break-ups. He is the son of Jose and Marcia Andrade of Yarmouth Port.

2014 Nauset Regional High graduate Kenyon Keyes, son of Kenyon and Sue Keyes of Orleans, recently wrapped up his freshman season with the Massachusetts Maritime Academy Buccaneers men’s soccer team. Keyes, a three-sport star for the Nauset Warriors (football, ice hockey), played in three games this fall.

2013 Bourne High School graduate and former Canalmen three-sport star Kianna Carpenter just finished her second season on the Massachusetts Maritime Academy women’s soccer team. Carpenter, the daughter of Richard and Stephanie Oldrid of Bourne and she is a sophomore facilities engineering major at MMA. Carpenter also plays lacrosse for the Buccaneers.

2012 Sandwich High School former three-sport star Philip Boudrow recently completed his junior season on the offensive line for the Massachusetts Maritime Academy Buccaneers. Bourdrow played in nine games this fall for Coach Jeremy Cameron’s Blue and Gold. Boudrow, the son of Joseph and Carol Boudrow of Sandwich, is a marine transportation major at MMA and was a key part of the Buccaneers’ record-setting offensive line in 2013.

2012 Upper Cape Tech graduate and former two-sport standout for the Rams Jake Schmitt turned in a solid season on the defensive line this season for the Massachusetts Maritime Academy Buccaneers’ football team. Schmitt totaled 17 tackles in nine games. He was a South Coast all-star in football and lacrosse at Upper Cape Tech where he helped lead the Rams to a 2011 Super Bowl championship title. A Bourne native, the stalwart defensive lineman is the son of Matthew and Lisa Schmitt of Bourne.

2014 Bourne High School grad and former Canalmen star running back Chad Marsh just completed a fine freshman season at defensive back for the Massachusetts Maritime Academy Buccaneers. Marsh totaled 10 tackles in his rookie campaign, seeing action in eight games.

2014 Pope John Paul II High School (Hyannis) graduate Jake Clougher, a cross country star for the Lions, recently completed his freshman season running long distance for the Massachusetts Maritime Academy Buccaneers. He is a Sandwich native.

2014 Sturgis West Charter School graduate Tobias Way, a former cross country star for the Navigators, recently completed his freshman season for the Massachusetts Maritime Academy Buccaneers cross country team. He is a native of Pocasset.

A 2012 graduate of Barnstable High School, former Red Raider pitcher Willie Nastasi is now pitching for the University of North Carolina-Pembroke in Pembroke, NC. Nastasi went to the University of Connecticut then transferred to Florence-Darlington Technical College (CT) before enrolling at UNCP to play for the Braves and study Special Education. This past spring, he saw action at Florence-Darlington in 11 games as a sophomore (all starts) and posted a 5-3 record and a 2.62 ERA in 55 innings pitched with 46 strikeouts and nine walks. He is the son of Ann and Dave Nastasi of Centerville.

UMass-Dartmouth junior righthanded pitcher George Bent is currently preparing for the 2015 baseball season for the Corsairs after another solid spring on the collegiate mound. Bent went 1-2 in 42.1 innings and struck out 17 batters. He finished the 2014 campaign with a 4.89 earned run average. Bent led Barnstable Post 206 to back-to-back Massachusetts American Legion state championships and was named the 2013 District 10 Pitcher of the Year. He is the son of George and Kathy Bent of Centerville and he is a 2012 graduate of Barnstable High School.

University of Connecticut junior first baseman Bob Melley, a 2012 Boston College High School graduate and native of Centerville, wrapped up a stellar 2014 season with a dozen or so accolades. Melley was named the NEIBA New England Player of the Year and First Team All-New England while also being named to the ACC All-Conference First Team. He played last summer for the Hyannis Harborhawks of the Cape Cod Baseball League after finishing the spring with a .359 average to lead the ACC. He is the son of Bob and Ann Marie Melley of Centerville.

Sandwich, MA native Mike Thiesing, a 2011 graduate of Archbishop Williams and 2012 graduate of the Winchendon School, is currently studying English while playing ice hockey for the Div. 2 Stonehill College Skyhawks. He is the son of Lynn and David Thiesing of Sandwich.
