BROCKTON — The Barnstable High School wrestling team had a fine showing Saturday morning at a quad meet with Brockton, Saugus and Braintree, winning two of three matches on the day. John Goode, Owen Murray, Donnie Mach, Casey Connor and Mike Bertucci all went undefeated to lead the way for the Red Raiders.
Barnstable, now 5-2 on the season, defeated Saugus in the opening match, 54-21, followed by a loss to Brockton, 53-30, and then a victory over Braintree, 51-30.
In the first match versus Saugus, Mike Stanley pinned his opponent for the win in the 106 lb. division. Kyle White then took a win by forfeit in the 113-lb. bracket. John Goode wrestld at 120 lbs. and won by pin, as did Casey Connor in the 126-lb, division. Freshman Vinny Ciliberto won by points in the 132-division but Alex Lopes took a loss by disqualification when he sustained an injury in the 182-lb. division.
Junior Mike Bertucci took a win by pin in the 195-lb. division and senior captain Owen Murray finished the victory with a win in the heavyweight class.
All of Bertucci’s three wins on the day were by pin and Nate Manuel notched his first-ever varsity victory by pin in the 145-lb. division.
