Cape Symphony to Perform Rare Concert at Cape Cod National Seashore

EASTHAM – The Cape Symphony Orchestra will perform a unique concert later this month as part of a daylong Centennial Celebration for the Cape Cod National Seashore.

Eighteen of the symphony’s principal musicians will perform in the amphitheater at the Salt Pond Visitor Center in Eastham on Thursday, August 25 at 6 p.m.

“This is the first free program that we’ve ever given since my time at the symphony,” said Jung-Ho Pak, the artistic director and conductor of the Cape Symphony, in a statement. “It’s the result of our shared desire with the National Park Service to provide a gift to the public that celebrates another gift – the beautiful Cape Cod National Seashore.”

The music performed will reflect on nature and will include “Peter and the Wolf” and “Carnival of Animals.” Park rangers will also take part in the performance and will narrate for “Carnival of Animals” and a brand new piece that will tell the story of the birth of the National Park Service.

The Centennial Celebration day will also feature fun, educational activities for families, including a science street fair and symposium, a Province Lands scavenger hunt, Wampanoag games and a commemorative US Postal Service cancellation.

There is limited bench seating for the concert and it is recommended that attendees bring a towel, blanket or lawn chair to sit on. The concert will be held at Nauset Regional High School if there is inclement weather.
