Get Ready to Ride!

Habitat for Humanity Cape Cod will hold its second annual Ride for Homes on Sept. 22, and now is the time to get registered for this fun, family-friendly event.

Last year’s Ride brought over 75 riders from near and far to help raise money for Habitat for Humanity Cape Cod, and it was a great success, with over $50,000 raised. This year’s event will be even bigger and better.

Families, groups, teams, and individuals of all ages are welcome to take part in the Ride for Homes. Each participant must raise a minimum of $300 to ride, and registration is $25 per person. Children 12 and under are not required to raise funds or pay the registration fee, but are welcome to ride.

“This year, we’re hoping for 150 riders,” said Wendy Cullinan, Director of Resource Development. “Everyone is welcome to invite a friend!”

The Ride begins and ends at Aptucxet Trading Post Museum in Bourne, and there are two separate rides. The first, beginning at 8 a.m., is a 40-mile scenic ride to Woods Hole and back. The second, beginning at 8:30 a.m., is a 10-mile ride along the beautiful Cape Cod Canal and back. Junior riders 12 and under can do the 10-mile ride with an adult.

Both routes boast beautiful water views and are safe for experienced and beginner riders. After the Ride is over, participants can celebrate with a family-friendly barbeque from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. back at the Aptucxet Trading Post Museum.

This wonderful event is also in need of volunteers. Last year, 40 volunteers handled parking, check-in, food, water, snacks, manned checkpoints, and included cooks and bartenders, as well. “There’s always a need for more volunteers,” Cullinan said.

Habitat biking shirts and jerseys can be purchased at the Habitat Store online and, if you raise over $1,000 for the Ride, you’ll get a special VIP shirt.

Habitat for Humanity Cape Cod has built over 140 homes on the Cape – homes that have been built in every town, and have 40 more in the pipeline, waiting to be built in the near future. But they need your help.

Spend a great morning with wonderful people who are supporting a worthy cause. To register for the Ride for Homes, you can visit rideforhomes.com or visit the habitatcapecod.org website and follow the links for registration.
