VIDEO: Humpback whale spotted off Wareham; officials urge caution to boaters

WAREHAM – As the weekend approaches with increased boating activity, the Wareham Department of Natural Resources is urging caution following the spotting of a humpback whale in the vicinity of Hog Island Channel this week.

The whale was last spotted on Friday in the channel between markers #6 & #7.

Officials remind all vessels to operate with extreme caution to avoid a collision while the whale explores the area.

The video below was taken by the DNR earlier this week as the whale was breaching.

The whale has been swimming between Onset Island and Hog Island Channel.

If you are going to be transiting the area, keep a look out, operate at a safe distance from the whale and report sightings to the Coast Guard.
