UPDATED: 7th Annual ‘Shop With a Cop’ helps Cape Cod kids with holiday presents

YARMOUTH – Thirty-five children and 18 Cape Cod police officers took part in the 7th Annual Shop With a Cop shopping spree Wednesday afternoon.

The day began at YPD headquarters and then headed to Sam Diego’s in Hyannis for lunch and Kohl’s for holiday shopping.

The goal this year was to give each student $150. Funding for the program is made entirely possible from private donations.

Donations can still be made to the Yarmouth Police Relief Association ‘Shop with a Cop’ program at Yarmouth Police Headquarters at any time.

CHATHAM – Today CPD officers had the pleasure of taking a group of Monomoy Regional Middle School students to Hyannis for “Shop With a Cop”. This annual event partners students with members of the police department for a trip to lunch followed by some holiday shopping. Numerous Cape police departments from Bourne to Provincetown participated.

The Chatham Police Association provides funding for two students to participate in this annual event but for the second year in a row a generous Chatham citizen provided funding for FIVE additional students for a total of 7 kids from MRMS. Each student is given $150 to do some holiday shopping for either themselves or for family or friends.

Students are nominated by the school for this opportunity based on attributes such as character, leadership, in-school effort and overall attitude.

Today, students and officers enjoyed lunch sponsored completely by Sam Diego’s of Hyannis and we thank them for their continued support. After lunch, the group went shopping at Kohl’s, also in Hyannis.

We thank our community for supporting the Chatham Police Association and it’s community outreach efforts. We also thank Sam Diego’s for their continued support of Shop With a Cop and also Kohl’s, for providing an additional discount at the checkout for the student shoppers.

Wellfleet Officers picked up the students at school today in marked police cars and brought them to Yarmouth PD to join other students and officers. We can’t confirm or deny if some may have played with with the emergency lights and siren.

Students and officers convoyed to Sam Diego’s for lunch, a special thanks to them for providing a great meal. After lunch it was off to Kohl’s for some shopping. Thanks to the Welllfleet Police Relief Association for providing gift cards to the students.

A great time was had by all!

Provincetown Police Officers Jason Sullivan and Shannon Beloin joined other Cape Cod area police officers, troopers, and deputies to bring two deserving Provincetown kids out to lunch at Sam Diego’s who provided the complete lunch for all of the students and Police Officers at no cost and then off to KOHL’s for the shopping.

Our two deserving students then received $125.00 each to spend on holiday items for their families. This money was donated by the men and women of the Provincetown Police Association.

Chief Jim Golden extends our sincere thanks to the Provincetown IB World School for their time to help with this program. The smiles on the kid’s faces made this event a complete success. It was our hope this can make the children’s holiday season just a little brighter.
