Monday will mark the 16th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attack on the United States. Local agencies are planning ceremonies:
PROVINCETOWN: Provincetown Police, Fire and EMS personnel, along with representatives from US Coast Guard Station Provincetown cordially invite you to remember those first responders and civilians who lost their lives in the 9/11 attacks in New York, Washington DC and Shanksville, PA.
Since that Tuesday morning on September 11, 2001, over 3,000 deaths have been directly attributed to those attacks.
The ceremony, which is an annual event, will be held at 9:30 am, on Monday September 11th, on Shankpainter Road, Provincetown [between the Police and Fire Stations].
The terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 caused more law enforcement line of duty of deaths than any other single incident in American history. One officer was killed when United Flight 93 crashed into a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania as he and other passengers attempted to regain control of the plane from the hijackers. 71 officers were killed when the two World Trade Center buildings collapsed in New York City. Dozens more have passed away in the years following 2001 as the direct result of illnesses contracted while working in the hazardous conditions immediately following the attacks in New York.
WELLFLEET: Wellfleet PD and FD will be holding a remembrance on Monday 9-11 at the Wellfleet Fire station. At 10:00 am members of the fire and police departments will collect around the flag pole for a short remembrance. The public is invited to attend.
EASTHAM – On Monday, September 11, 2017, at 9:55am, the Eastham Fire Department and Eastham Police Department will be holding a 9/11 remembrance ceremony at the flagpole in front of the fire station. The public is invited to attend. Light refreshments will be served after the ceremony.
BREWSTER – The Brewster Fire Department will be hosting our annual 9/11 remembrance ceremony at Fire Headquarters on Monday September 11 beginning at 6:00 pm.
The service is designed to honor first responders, civilian victims and their family members who were impacted by the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001 in New York City, Washington D.C, and Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
Pastor Steven Trudel of the Cape Cod Bible Alliance Church will offer the memorial invocation. Other participants will include the Brewster Police Department, Brewster Town officials, Orleans Fire Department, Eastham Fire Department, Orleans Police Department, local Scout groups, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and other regional emergency service organizations. Musical performances will be provided by the Brewster Baptist Church.

CHATHAM – Chatham Fire Department will be hosting a brief ceremony to honor the lives that were lost during the 9-11-01 attacks. Please join us in front of the fire station around our 9-11 Memorial Garden at 8:30 am pm Monday. Light refreshments to follow.
HARWICH – The Harwich Fire Department will hold a brief ceremony on Monday September 11th, 2017 in remembrance of the victims killed in the September 11th, 2001 attacks.
The ceremony will be held in front of the Robert A. Peterson Firehouse at 175 Sisson Road at 10 AM. We ask those attending assemble by 9:45 AM.
Light refreshments and coffee will be available immediately following the ceremony in the Robert Johnson Training Room.
YARMOUTH – (Police) On Monday, September 11, 2017 at 7:30AM the Town of Yarmouth will hold a special 9/11memorial service at the Town of Yarmouth 9/11 Memorial Garden located on the grounds of Yarmouth Police Department Headquarters in West Yarmouth.
The ceremony is open to all members of our community and will feature special prayers and recognitions.
Please join us as we pause to reflect and to remember the heroes of that day; and the heroes that continue to dedicate themselves on a daily basis to our nation, to serving others, and to protecting the precious freedoms we enjoy.
We remember those on the ground and in the air that day; the firefighters, police officers, military members, passengers on the American and United flights, those in the World Trade Center, and countless ordinary citizens that offered help.
The Firefighters and Police Officers didn’t run from the flames…they ran into them. They didn’t run down the staircases, they ran up them. They didn’t lose their lives…they gave them.
We will always remember their families and loved ones.

FALMOUTH – Please join Falmouth Fire/Rescue on Monday, Sept 11th at 9:50 AMs for a brief 9/11 Remembrance. Location is fire headquarters at 399 Main Street in Falmouth.
