9th annual YPD Blue 5K Run for a Reason is Sunday

YARMOUTH
– The 9th Annual YPD Blue 5K Run for a Reason is Ready to Roll this Sunday, May 15th starting and ending at the Skipper Restaurant, 152 South Shore Drive, in beautiful South Yarmouth, Massachusetts.

Run for a Reason is a healthy fundraiser designed to honor and remember those who make a difference in our community during National Police Week which recognizes the service and sacrifice of all United States Law Enforcement Officers.

The course is a 3.1 mile fast, flat, and scenic waterfront route along beautiful Nantucket Sound and Bass River. Award winning reporter Kathy Curran of WCVB Channel 5 News in Boston—an avid runner and a summertime Yarmouth resident—will again serve as the special race emcee.

Kids Fun Run 12-under ($10.00 per person) will begin at 10:30 a.m. First 150 pre-registered for the Kids Fun Run will receive a YPD Blue drawstring back pack.

The YPD Blue 5K Run/Walk ($25.00 per person) will begin at 11:00 a.m. First 250 pre-registered will receive a free T-shirt and goody bag.

The First Responder Challenge Cup
This is open to all Police Departments and Fire Departments who put together a team of 3 or more full time employees. The top 3 times from each team will be added together to determine place of finish. The top 3 names of the winning team will have their names etched on the trophy and will have the right to display the trophy for one year at their department or they can choose to keep it displayed at the Skipper Restaurant.

The Restaurant Cup Challenge
This is open to all Restaurants who put together a team of 3 or more employees. The top 3 times from each team will be added together to determine place of finish. The top 3 names of the winning team will have their names etched on the trophy and will have the right to display the trophy for one year at their restaurant.

YPD Blue 5K Awards

  • First place overall male and female finishers
  • Top 3 male and female finishers in the following age groups:

13-under, 14-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-plus

  • First Male and Female Full-Time Police Officer
  • First Male and Female Full-Time Fire and Rescue Member
  • First Male and Female Active or Retired Military
