Alert citizen and K9 Nero help capture MV B&E suspect

YARMOUTH – Yarmouth Police report that on Sunday at approximately 10:15 PM, the Yarmouth Police Department Emergency 911 Dispatch Center received a report from a concerned citizen who had observed a suspect acting very suspicious near his neighbor’s vehicle in the area of Echo road and Partridge Valley Road in West Yarmouth.

Yarmouth Police Department Patrol Officers Justin Haire and John Lanata, Jr. were dispatched to the area and upon arrival in the area they observed a white Ford Taurus parked in the of a home which had the side mirrors lights on, illuminating the ground near the car doors.  The driver door was partial open and the center armrest was partially raised up. 

The owner of the car came outside and confirmed she had closed the doors of the car and the armrest is usually all the way down and that her GPS device was missing. 

Yarmouth Police Department K9 Officer Gannon and his canine partner Nero arrived on scene and is a short time located a man walking in the immediate area matching the description of the suspect carrying a small headlamp.

The suspect was identified as Michael J. Korbel, 22, of West Yarmouth. Korbel was placed under arrest on a charge of breaking and entering a vehicle in the nighttime with intent to commit a felony and transported to Yarmouth Police Department Headquarters by Patrol Officer Jason Batchelder.

Korbel was processed and was due in the Barnstable District Court Monday for arraignment.
