Alleged tip jar bandit arrested after failing to appear in court

Mary Gelsthorpe

BOURNE – Bourne Police report that many of you may remember a surveillance video they posted on February 20th of a female who stole from the tip jar at The Lobster Trap in Bourne. Thanks to your tips and the investigation by their detectives, the female in the video was identified and summoned to court.

Officers became aware that the identified female had defaulted on her required appearance at Falmouth District Court. As a result, the court issued a warrant for the arrest of 66-year-old Mary Gelsthorpe. On Wednesday, officers responded to her residence on Cotuit Road and took Gelsthorpe into custody without incident. She was later released on bail and arraigned at Falmouth District Court Thursday morning for the charge of Larceny Under $250.
