Anonymous Tip Leads DNR Law Enforcement Officer to Shellfish Poachers

YARMOUTH
From Yarmouth Division of Natural Resources: On Monday October 7, 2019 an anonymous caller reported individuals acting suspiciously near the mouth of Parkers River. A DNR Law Enforcement Officer responded and located two individuals actively harvesting shellfish. Upon inspection of the bucket they were carrying, the officer located quahogs and oysters.

After a brief investigation it was determined that neither individual had a license to shellfish nor were they in an area open to shellfishing.

The illegally harvested product was seized and ultimately returned back to the water.

Violations such as these can result in citations from $25.00 – $75.00 per offense (local by-law) and/or arrest if a party refuses to comply with lawful orders to display illegally harvested product (per MGL Chp. 130 Sec. 98).

Yarmouth Division of Natural Resources is committed to protecting the natural resources of Yarmouth by education and enforcement.
