Barnstable blaze ruled arson-suspect known to authorities

BARNSTABLE – From Mass Department of Fire Services: State Fire Marshal Peter J. Ostroskey, Barnstable Fire Chief Francis M. Pulsifer, and Barnstable Police Chief Matthew K. Sonnabend said yesterday’s 3-alarm fire in the single-family home at 84 Allyn Lane in Barnstable was intentionally-set. Investigators know who is responsible for setting the fire and where they are. The public is not at risk.

The fire was reported at 1:28 p.m. on October 20, 2019. The vacation home is a total loss and damages are estimated at $520,000. No one was inside the home at the time of the fire and no one was injured. Chief Pulsifer said, “The fire was burning for quite some time before it was reported. As a result, it got a good head start on us.”

The Barnstable Fire Department, the Barnstable Police Department and State Police assigned to the Office of the State Fire Marshal jointly investigated this fire. The investigation is ongoing.
