Barnstable County inmates provide interior improvements at Whelden Memorial Library

WEST BARNSTBLE
From Barsntable County Sheriff’s Office: An inmate work crew recently completed a two-day interior paint job at Whelden Library in West Barnstable. The paint and trim work they provided has “revitalized the building and given it an attractive new look,” according to Victoria Allard, the library director.

In addition to the paint work, the Barnstable County inmates also installed new flooring in two library restrooms “in dire need” of replacement, says Allard, adding that inmate labor has been “invaluable in our struggle to get these improvements done within budgetary constraints.”

The inmate labor saved the library about $1,800 in labor costs, leaving Allard searching for the final item that needs replacement, new carpeting: “The carpet is in very poor condition. Maybe a donor will step up to help with that final piece of unfinished business.”
