Barnstable County Sends Team to Assist Florida’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) After Hurricane Michael

BARNSTABLE –  Members from the Barnstable County All Hazards Incident Management Team (BCAHIMT) deployed this past Monday, October 15th to assist with response and recovery efforts for Hurricane Michael.  The team is supporting Florida’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) helping to set up Points of Distribution (POD). POD’s are used to distribute food, water, ice and sometimes fuel in areas of devastation.  The team members will be assisting until October 27th. 

About Barnstable County All Hazards Incident Management Team             

The Barnstable County All Hazards Incident Management Team (BCAHIMT) works under the oversight of the Regional Emergency Planning Committee (REPC) and is made up of state and local first responders, civilians, and retirees who collectively hold specialized training in areas of command, operations, planning, finance, and logistics.

Formed in 2005, the BCAHIMT is under the direction of Dennis Deputy Fire Chief Robert Brown and Coordinator (Ret.) Chatham Police Captain Michael Walker.  In the past BCAHIMT assisted affected communities when the Quabbin Reservoir pipe burst, causing severe flooding and leaving cities and towns without water in the Boston Metro area. They were also deployed to New York after Hurricane Sandy.

Locally, the BCAHIMT operates the Multi-Agency Coordination Center (MACC), located at the old jail in Barnstable, during major storms or threats. Its mission is to supply towns with items they need during an event. The team works closely with MEMA and Eversource and other utilities companies.
