Barnstable PD crime investigator takes class in Chile to improve relations with Latin American community

BARNSTABLE – Barnstable Police report that On July 26th & 27th, Barnstable Police Officer and Crime Analyst Eric Drifmeyer attended the VIII Annual Fundacion Paz Ciudadana International Conference of Delictual Analysis held in Santiago, Chile. Officer Drifmeyer has been the department crime analyst since May of 2009, and currently serves on the Executive Board of the International Association of Crime Analysts (IACA).

Since 2011, the IACA has worked in partnership with Fundacion Paz Ciudadana in developing crime analysis strategies and best-practices in support of the education and training of crime analysts across Latin America.

As an Executive Board member of the IACA, and longtime analyst for the Barnstable Police Department, Officer Drifmeyer was invited to the VIII Annual Fundacion Paz Ciudadana International Conference of Delictual Analysis to speak on best practices in crime analysis in the United States. Among his many duties as an ambassador of the IACA and the Barnstable Police Department, Officer Drifmeyer delivered a presentation on A Crime Analysts Role in Crime Prevention Strategies to 400-500 people, gave interviews to local Chilean media outlets, attended receptions with members of the Chilean Ministry and Law Enforcement Dignitaries, and toured the crime analysis unit of the Policia de Investigaciones de Chile (PDI).

Officer Drifmeyer’s role on an international level with Fundacion Paz Ciudadana and the International Association of Crime Analysts is a testament to the commitment of the Barnstable Police Department in serving the local Latin American community here on Cape Cod. These partnerships are integral in bridging cultural gaps between the police and ethnic communities, and Officer Drifmeyer’s work helps to create in-roads into achieving relationships here at home.
