Barnstable Police K9 Foundation Launches “Fur Missile” K9 Camera Fundraising Campaign

HYANNIS – In the wake of recent tragic events, the Barnstable Police K9 Foundation is seeking to purchase cameras for the protection and improved safety of both the BPD K9s and their handlers. Special infrared and remote voice command enabled dog cameras exists that allow K9 officers to better assess and respond to situations, but the state of the art camera are costly. A single camera costs $22,000. It is the Foundation’s hope that with the help of the community, enough money will be raised to actually purchase one camera, or maybe even both of the needed cameras.

The Foundation approached Cape Cod Beer to see if they were willing to help kick off or in some way be part of the fundraising effort. President/Brewmaster Todd Marcus was moved by the mission and offered to produce and sell a specially named beer in honor of the effort. Marcus also committed to donating 100% of the gross revenue from the beer sold (in bottles and pints) back to the cause. This is a commitment of $10,000. Cape Cod Beer is hosting a kick off/beer release party to encourage the community to help the foundation achieve its goal.

The beer is being called “Fur Missile” which is a name affectionately used by the handlers to refer to what a working K9 looks like as it launches itself towards it objective.

About the Kickoff Party: The Kickoff/Beer Release party will be held on Friday June 1 from 6 to 10pm at the brewery. The local band “ 57 Heavy” has donated their time to perform for the cause, and there will be a nominal fee at the door, which will go directly to the Foundation. The Foundation is still seeking donations or sponsorships to cover the cost of food. 100% of the money collected for the sale of “Fur Missile” that evening (and after) will go to the Foundation. There will be koozies, stickers and a special glass available for purchase as well. For anyone not able to attend, online donations are accepted on the Foundation’s website.

About the Beer: Fur Missile is a blonde ale infused with black tea and citrus peel. This is an easy drinking beer, with a light refreshing flavor. The beer will be available at the brewery and possibly select package stores in 22 oz glass bottles. It will also be available on tap at the brewery. 100% of the gross revenue will be donated directly to the Foundation for the purpose of purchasing the K9 camera(s). The labels for this beer were designed in collaboration with the foundation, Cape Cod Beer and local graphic designer Alison Caron. The printing of the labels was donated in full by In Touch Labels of Lowell MA.
