HYANNIS – From Barnstable Police: “On August 14, 2018 Barnstable Police arrested a Centerville man in connection with a stabbing at Keyes Beach in Hyannis. At about 5:20 pm on Sunday August 12th, Barnstable Police were dispatched to Keyes Beach after receiving a report of a man with a gun. Arriving officers discovered a large party, approx.150-200 people, in the beach picnic area. Several people were quickly packing up a make-shift bar and D.J. booth after what witnesses said was an altercation between a few individuals who had since departed. As the group dispersed, Barnstable Police were notified of a stabbing victim who arrived at Cape Cod Hospital. The victim, a 22-year-old Brewster man, suffered three stab wounds to his back and shoulder.

An investigation into the stabbing led detectives to identify 31-year-old Damion Fray of Centerville as a suspect. Fray was surveilled two days later, before being stopped in a motor vehicle in Dennis where he was placed under arrest. Fray was charged with Assault & Battery by Dangerous Weapon, Armed Assault with Intent to Murder, and Assault & Battery causing Serious Bodily Injury.

Subsequent to Fray’s arrest, a search warrant was obtained for his Centerville residence and was executed on Wednesday, August 15th. During the search, investigators located a loaded Lugar 9mm handgun along with a supply of ammunition. A cohabiter of the home, 46-year-old Neil Woolery, was placed under arrest and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.

Fray appeared in Barnstable District Court on Tuesday and was ordered held pending a dangerous hearing on Monday, August 20, 2018. Woolery appeared in Barnstable District Court on Wednesday and was held on $1,000 cash bail. The stabbing victim spent 2-3 days at Cape Cod Hospital recovering from his injuries, and has since been discharged.”
