Two people airlifted after head-on crash, bicyclist struck in Osterville

OSTERVILLE – A bicyclist was seriously injured in a head-on traffic crash in Osterville around 6:15 PM Thursday. A MedFlight helicopter was requested to land at the Cape Cod Airfield in Marstons Mills to fly the victim to a trauma center. A second person was transported from the scene to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth to meet a second MedFlight helicopter. Two other people were transported to Cape Cod Hospital with injuries that were serious but not life-threatening. Barnstable Police are investigating the crash. Further details were not immediately available.

Statement from Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills (COMM) fire: COMM FD received a call for a motor vehicle crash involving a bicyclist. Car 321, Engine 305, Ambulance 324 and Ambulance 325 responded. Ambulance 325 arrived on location to find two vehicles with moderate to heavy front end damage and a patient lying on the driveway. A total of five patients were involved. Barnstable PD was on location. An off duty Hyannis firefighter was also on scene rendering aid. A Boston MedFlight helicopter was requested to land at the Cape Cod Airfield in Marstons Mills. West Barnstable Engine 294 was requested to respond and secure the landing zone. Ambulance 327 and a Hyannis Fire Department ambulance was requested to the scene. Car 302 arrived at the scene. Ambulance 327 requested a second MedFlight helicopter. MedFlight responded and met Ambulance 327 at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital landing pad in Plymouth. Two patients were transported to Cape Cod Hospital and one refused treatment and transport at the scene. Barnstable Police and Engine 305 remained on scene. The scene was then turned over to the Barnstable Police.
