New details: Bicyclist critically injured in Wellfleet

WELLFLEET – A bicyclist was critically injured after reportedly falling from his bike in Wellfleet. It happened about 9 AM along Route 6 at the entrance to Maurice’s Campground. Bystanders and an Eastham Police officer reached the scene quickly and started CPR. The victim was rushed to Cape Cod Hospital.

In a statement, Wellfleet Police report that on Wednesday November 17, 2021 at approximately 9:00AM, the Wellfleet Police and Fire departments received a 911 call from Maurice’s Campground reporting that a male party had fallen from his bicycle and was in cardiac arrest. Eastham Police Officer Greg Plante was turning around at the Wellfleet town line when he heard the call dispatched and quickly responded to the scene. Upon arrival, Officer Plante administered his AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) on the male party who was unconscious and not breathing. Wellfleet Police and Fire Department personnel then arrived on scene and assisted with CPR along with life saving measures. The male party was transported to Cape Cod Hospital by the Wellfleet Fire Department. The quick actions of the bystander who discovered the injured party and called 911 along with Officer Plante should be commended. This continues to highlight the close working relationship between our Public Safety Agencies and the communities we serve.
