HYANNIS – Motorists were being urged to use caution Friday morning as black ice caused several minor accidents around the area.
In Bourne, police said a section of the westbound Scenic Highway was closed after a tractor trailer went off the road.
Other departments reported minor skidding accidents that included cars colliding and other vehicles hitting trees.
Some overnight precipitation froze in the early morning hours, causing the slick roadways.
Updated: The most serious crash appeared to be in Falmouth where officials were called to Route 28 between Route 151 and Thomas B. Landers Road shortly after 7 AM. According to reports, a vehicle rolled over on its roof ejecting one person. That victim was taken to the Falmouth Hospital helipad to meet a MedFligth helicopter. Two other ambulances were called to the scene. Falmouth Police were reportedly investigating black ice and possible solar glare as factors in the crash.
Meanwhile in Harwich a vehicle rolled over on its roof on Route 6 near the Dennis town line. The driver was able to get out and declined medical treatment. Earlier back in Falmouth, a crash involving a moped was reported on Route 28 by Studley Drive. The victim was taken to Falmouth Hospital for evalation.
In Yarmouth a car struck a tree on Highbank Road at Charles Street. The driver was taken to Cape Cod Hospital for evaluation. An earlier car vs tree was also reported in Sandwich on Harlow Road. The extent of injuries in that crash was not immediately clear.
Snow squalls were reported earlier on Route 6 between Dennis and Sandwich. Road crews are out treating surfaces but motorists should continue to use extra caution.
