UPDATED: Black ice likely factor in series of morning crashes

CAPE COD – Black ice may have been responsible for a series of crashes Wednesday morning causing local PDs to urge motorists to use extreme caution:

DENNIS – A Mercury Mountaineer struck a tree around 7:10 AM. The crash happened on Old Chatham Road at Atlantic Avenue. The driver was not seriously injured but firefighters had to stabilize the vehicle and extricate the victim who was taken to Cape Cod Hospital for evaluation.

MASHPEE – About the same time, a vehicle struck rolled over on Great Neck Road South near River Road. Everyone was able to get out of the vehicle and no injuries were reported.

SANDWICH – Around 7:30 AM, another crash was reported in the area of 140 Farmersville Road in Sandwich. A car reportedly struck a utility pole. Firefighters had to extricate the driver from the wreckage. A MedFlight helicopter was requested to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth but was then cancelled and the victim was taken to South Shore Hospital trauma center in Weymouth.

West Barnstable Fire/CWN

WEST BARNSTABLE – West Barnstable Fire and and State Police responded to this 3 car crash on Route 6 eastbound at Exit 5 early this morning. One driver was transported to Cape Cod Hospital.
