Black ice suspected in series of crashes on Route 6; multiple injuries, child MedFlighted


Black ice was apparently responsible for a series of crashes Monday morning:
WEST BARNSTABLE
– About 6:15 PM, a vehicle rolled over on Route 6 westbound past exit 6 (Route 132). The occupants were able to get out of the vehicle and no injuries were reported. State Police are investigating.

YARMOUTH – Shortly after 6:30 AM, several crashes were reported on Route 6 in Yarmouth. One vehicle rolled over the guardrail near exit 8 sending the driver to Cape Cod Hospital. Another vehicle crash was reported westbound near the West Yarmouth Road overpass. Firefighters had to extricate a driver from one of those vehicles. As many as 7 injuries were reported prompting a Mass Casualty Incident declaration. State Police are investigating.

DENNIS – A child was seriously injured in a rollover crash at the intersection of Theopulius Smith Road and Bertram Road about 6:45 AM. The 9-year-old child was MedFlighted from Barnstable Municipal Airport to a trauma center with serious injuries. Three others were also evaluated with injuries that were not life-threatening. Dennis Police are investigating.
