Man arrested in connection with pedestrian hit-and-run

BOURNE – At approximately 7:51 a.m., officers from the Bourne Police Department responded to the area of Commerce Park Drive for a report of a person struck by a motor vehicle. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 68-year-old man with serious injuries. The victim was transported via ambulance to a Rhode Island Hospital in Providence after MedFlight was not available. Bourne Police report the investigation has determined the victim was intentionally struck by a 1994 white Chevrolet van vearing Florida registration M445XT operated by an acquaintance, 65-year-old Charles McKeen III of Falmouth. An warrant has been issued for McKeen’s arrest on charges including attempted murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (MV), and leaving the scene of personal injury.

On Tuesday Bourne Police received information that McKeen may be in Western Massachusetts, and they contacted Mass State Police Troop B who were enroute to a suspicious vehicle call involving a vehicle matching the description of the one involved in the Bourne crash. State Police located McKeen’s vehicle abandoned in Charlemont, Massachusetts, and an extensive search of the area ensued involving multiple divisions of the State Police and other agencies. This resulted in additional information that McKeen was enroute back to eastern Massachusetts. Just before 5 p.m., McKeen surrendered at the Bourne Police station. McKeen is due to be arraigned in Falmouth District Court on Wednesday.
