VIDEO: Basement fire in Dennis


DENNIS
– The Dennis fire department along with the Brewster fire department responded to a reported structure fire at 66 Sea Street in East Dennis. The fire was reported at 12:20 PM and is owned by a Mr. Roger Goodell. Fire officials say the occupants of the building were welding in an attached barn. Hot embers slipped through the flooring into the basement causing the fire. Black smoke was showing from the side of the building when firefighters arrived. The fire was extinguished with 20 minutes. The damage to the 200 year old house was contained to the basement.

Both Barnstable and Harwich fire departments sent fire engines to cover Dennis during the fire. Two pet cats were removed from the building without harm and there were no reported injuries to firefighters.
