BOURNE – Bourne Fire reports that at 7:30 AM on Wednesday, they responded to a reported motor vehicle crash at the intersection of MacArthur Boulevard (Route 28) and Waterhouse Road. The first arriving engine company found a crash involving a utility van and passenger bus. There was one occupant in the van, twenty passengers on the bus, and the bus driver. The occupant from the van and two bus passengers were transported to Falmouth Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and two other passengers were evaluated but refused transport to the hospital.
Some copper pipes appear to have left the van and broke through a window on the passenger side of the van. The pipes traveled approximately four feet into van, but not striking any passengers. All bus passengers who were not transported to the hospital remained on scene and were transported to their original destination by a second bus.
While evaluating and treating patients, crews also worked to contain approximately 90 gallons of diesel fuel that spilled on the roadway and entered nearby storm drains. The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection assisted with evaluating the extent of the spill.
Massachusetts Department of Transportation and Bourne Department of Public Works assisted the fire department on scene, and the crash is under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police. One lane of Macarthur Boulevard southbound and the entrance to Waterhouse Road from remained closed during operations. Fire department crews were on location for two and a half hours, and cleanup crews remained on scene.
