New details: Dennis firefighters respond to residential blaze



WEST DENNIS – Firefighters responded to a raging blaze at a residence in West Dennis sometime after 5:30 PM Monday. The fire was reported at 202 Main Street (Route 28). The flames were reported to be through the roof of the building. There were no immediate reports of injuries. Mutual aid from surrounding towns was also responding to the fire. Motorists on Route 28 should expect delays in the area.

Statement from Dennis Fire: At 5:43 PM (Monday), the Dennis Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 202 Main Street (Route 28) in West Dennis. When crews arrived, flames were visible from the 1 ½ story, wood framed residence. A working fire assignment was requested. This brought additional resources to the scene and for station coverage. Crews worked quickly to knock down the fire and primary and secondary searches of the residence were conducted with all parties and pets accounted for. Two individuals from the residence were evaluated on scene for smoke inhalation and burns. The Yarmouth, Harwich and Brewster Fire departments provided mutual aid assistance at the scene while Orleans, Chatham and Barnstable provided station coverage.

The fire is currently under investigation but is believed to have started from an unattended candle. There was moderate damage throughout the structure. The Red Cross is assisting the residents displaced by the fire.
