WEST DENNIS – The Barnstable County Dive Team was called to Captain Keavy Way in the “fingers” section of West Dennis (see map below) by the Dennis Fire Department around 6:36 p.m. Sunday to assist in a search for a missing male in his late 20s or early 30s.
Earlier in the day, the Dennis Police Department had received a report of a person who had gone missing around 11 p.m. Saturday night from a residence on Captain Keavy Way. The Dennis Police requested the Dennis Fire Department rescue boat to the scene around 6 p.m. Sunday. That’s when Dennis firefighters called for the Tier 2 dive team activation. Units of the dive team were on scene around 7:15 p.m. (photo below).
Two divers went into the water and shortly thereafter rescuers called for a Stokes litter to the scene. Divers reportedly recovered the body of a 31-year-old man. A statement from the Cape and Islands district attorney’s office said there was nothing to suggest the cause was death was anything other than an accident but the incident remains under investigation. The victim was later identified as Christopher Diozzi , 31, of Boston.
