Dump truck vs pole causes major delays, power outages in Falmouth


FALMOUTH
– A dump truck struck a utility pole in Falmouth just before 4 PM causing major problems in the area. The crash happened in the area of 486 Thomas B. Landers Road. Photos from the scene show the truck with its bed up though it was not confirmed if it was up at the time of the crash. At least four utility poles were damaged or broken by the impact. The driver was apparently not seriously injured but was trapped in the cab until Eversource could make the scene safe. According to the companies outage map, 1,141 customers lost power due to the incident. Falmouth Police report the road is closed between Blacksmith Shop Road and Technology Park Drive until further notice.

Updated statement from Falmouth Police Thursday morning: On Wednesday, October 10, 2018 15:30 hrs Officers of the Falmouth Police Department responded to the area of 486 Thomas B. Landers Road for the report of a dump truck that struck overhead power lines which took down multiple utility poles. This effectively created a power outage to the local residences and businesses. Thomas B. Landers Road was closed from Blacksmith Shop Road to The Falmouth Ice Arena/Technology Park Entrance.

Eversource personnel have been on scene all night replacing/erecting the effected utility poles. A conservative estimated time of road opening to traffic is at noon ony Thursday. Please monitor the Falmouth Police Department Facebook page for further updates pertaining to work completion and/or extensions. School Officials are aware of the road closure and buses will be rerouted around the closure.

The FPD is highly recommending and encouraging the public to seek alternate routes within the town which would allow them to clearly negotiate around this traffic obstacle and they should take into consideration the extra time to do so.
