HARWICH – A two-vehicle crash was reported on Route 6 westbound just past exit 11 (Route 137) around 7:30 a.m. Saturday. The head-on impact caused one vehicle to burst into flames.
Initial attempts by first-arriving Harwich Police and State Police to extinguish the flames with fire extinguishers were unsuccessful due to the severity of the fire. Upon arrival, Harwich firefighters doused the blaze with an engine hand line.
All occupants of the two vehicles were able to self extricate. They were evaluated and treated by Harwich and Brewster medics and transported to Cape Cod Hospital with what appeared to be injuries that were not life threatening.
Westbound traffic was detoured at exit 11. Eastbound traffic was being diverted at exit 10.
The highway was reopened just over an hour after the crash occurred.
Mass State Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
