ORLEANS
-On Saturday at about 8:30 p.m., Orleans Fire Rescue was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 7 Hayward Lane, bringing a line response of an additional engine from Eastham and Brewster.

On arrival, crews found an active fire on a second floor deck at the rear of the house that was quickly advancing up the exterior and making headway into the interior and traveling into the cockloft area.

The Incident Commander called for a working structure fire assignment and the first due crew began a knockdown of the exterior flames, which had caused a partial collapse of the deck. The working structure fire assignment brought an additional engine from Harwich as well as an additional ambulance from Brewster.

Due to the very narrow streets in the area and severely limited access to house, it was not possible to get a ladder truck into the location, so crews were forced to use ground ladders to access the roof and interior of the building. Fire extension into the house was quickly knocked down and extensive overhaul was begun.

The fire was declared under control and crews began picking up after about an hour. No injuries were reported at press time and the cause and origin is under investigation.
