UPDATED: Ice rescue in Marstons Mills

MARSTONS MILLS – A woman reportedly fell through the ice of Patty’s Pond in Marstons Mills around 9:20 AM. Barnstable Police along with Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills (COMM) FD responded to the scene. In a press release, COMM reported that all on duty personnel responded for a person through the ice at Patty’s Pond off of Santuit-Newtown Rd. Marstons Mills, MA. COMM Dive Team and all available off duty personnel were alerted respond to the station to bring equipment to the scene. While companies were en route to the scene COMM Fire Department Dispatcher Laurie Mott used her local knowledge to divert responding units to the best access to the victim which was off of Wakeby Road in Marstons Mills.

When crews arrived, they discovered a woman flailing in the water after she had broken through the ice approximately 100 yards out into the pond. Barnstable Police Officer Tom Harmon assisted COMM Fire personnel in dry suits to break through the ice, place the woman on an ice rescue board, and return her to the shoreline.

The victim was transported to Cape Cod Hospital for treatment. No COMM personnel were injured during the rescue. Mutual aid companies supported COMM Fire Department during this labor intensive event. They included Hyannis Fire Department, Barnstable Fire Department, and West Barnstable Fire Department
