DENNIS PORT – Around 1:17 p.m. Saturday a motorcycle and Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority bus collided in the vicinity of 271 Route 28. The Dennis Police Department reports that upon arrival, officers found a motorcycle and the rider in the travel portion of the westbound lane in front of 254 Route 28, and a Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority bus stopped in the eastbound lane.

According to Dennis Police Department Lieutenant Peter Benson, the initial investigation revealed that the motorcycle was exiting the parking lot of 254 Route 28 into the westbound lane and struck the CCRTA bus which had been traveling east on Route 28.

Benson further states that the operator of the motorcycle, a 2016 Harley Davidson, was identified as David Michalowski, 35, of Yarmouthport.  Reports at the scene indicate that he was seriously injured.  A Dennis Fire Rescue ambulance transported the victim to the Barnstable Municipal Airport to rendezvous with a MedFlight helicopter for transport to a Boston trauma center. The transfer to the helicopter took place at 1:59 p.m.

Dennis Police report there were no injuries to anyone aboard the CCRTA bus, which contained the operator and one passenger.

Route 28 was closed between Sea Street and Shad Hole Road until around 2:40 p.m.

The crash remains under investigation by Dennis Police Department Accident Reconstruction Officer Christopher Hennigan and a Criminal Investigation Officer from the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office.
