Updated: Fatal crash in Cotuit

COTUIT – Barnstable Police report that on Monday at approximately 8:16 p.m., the Department received several 911 calls reporting a motor vehicle crash on Falmouth Road (Route 28) in Cotuit near Stub Toe Road. Multiple police officers were dispatched to the scene along with emergency personnel from the Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills Fire Department.

First responding officers reported serious injuries at the scene. Route 28 was closed to all traffic in the area of the crash.

A Chrysler sedan being operated by Thomas Levesque, 64, of East Falmouth was heading west on Route 28. The Chrysler crossed over the center line into the oncoming lane of traffic. The Chrysler struck the left side mirror of an Infiniti sedan heading east on Route 28. The Chrysler continued heading west on Route 28 veering farther into the oncoming lane of traffic. The Chrysler then struck a Mercedes Benz head-on in the east bound lane of Route 28.

Both vehicles suffered extensive damage. Mr. Levesque suffered severe trauma from the crash. He was treated at the scene for his injuries and transported to Cape Cod Hospital by ambulance. Mr. Levesque was pronounced deceased a short time later after arriving at the hospital. No other passengers were in Mr. Levesque’s car.

The operator of the Mercedes Benz, Phillip Doherty, was treated at the scene and transported to Cape Cod Hospital by ambulance. No other passengers were in Mr. Doherty’s car.

The crash is under investigation by the Barnstable Police Reconstruction Unit
