WEST BARNSTABLE – One person was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash in West Barnstable shortly after 10:30 AM Tuesday. The crash happened on Iyannough Road (Route 132) in front of Cape Cod Community College. Barnstable Police say a 62-year-old man from Buzzards Bay driving a Ford F-350 work truck crossed the center line while trying to avoid a rear-end collision with a vehicle stopped to turn left. After entering the oncoming lane, the male’s vehicle collided head-on with a 2010 Toyota Corolla sedan driven by a 38-year-old Fall River woman. The driver of the Corolla had to be extricated from the wreckage.
Rescuers called for a MedFlight helicopter to land at the soccer field at the college for the victim. The Corolla driver was flown to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. The pickup driver was not seriously injured. The crash is under investigation by Barnstable Police who issued the pickup driver a citation for a marked lanes violation.
