Updated: Escaped prisoner surrenders to Bourne Police

coggeshallbrandenBOURNE – Update: Bourne Police report that Branden Coggeshall surrendered to authorities at the Bourne Police station about 4:50 a.m. Sunday. He will be arraigned in Falmouth District Court on Monday.

(previous story) Bourne Police report that at approximately 5:24 p.m. officers conducted a motor vehicle stop in the area of Shore Road. A passenger in the vehicle, Branden Coggeshall, 24, from Bourne was determined to have three non-violent, misdemeanor warrants for his arrest. Coggeshall was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Bourne Police Department for booking.

Once at the station, the arresting officer secured his firearm in preparation for removing Coggeshall from the cruiser. During this short time, Coggeshall was able to slip out of his handcuffs, squeeze through the very small partition opening separating the front of the cruiser from the prisoner compartment, and exit the cruiser using the front driver’s side door. Seeing this, the arresting officer immediately gave chase following Coggeshall as he scaled a nearby chain-link fence. Once Coggeshall was over the fence, he continued running and fled out of sight.

Officers from the Bourne Police Department and several area agencies (including a Plymouth County K9 unit) searched the area, but were unable to locate Coggeshall.

The Bourne Police Department is requesting anyone with information on Coggeshall’s whereabouts to contact the department at 508-759-4451. In addition to the initial warrant charges, Coggeshall will be facing additional charges of Escape from Police and Destruction of Property Greater than $250.
