WEST DENNIS – A section of Route 28 in Dennis was closed after after a serious crash involving a motorcycle around 4 PM Sunday. The crash happened in front of Sundancer’s Restaurant. Crash reconstruction was called to the scene.
Dennis Police tell Cape Wide News that on May 17th, 2020 at 3:58 PM, they received multiple 911 calls reporting a motor vehicle crash involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck in the vicinity of 140 Route 28 in West Dennis. On arrival Officers found the operator of a 2005 Ducati motorcycle lying in the roadway. Dennis Fire Department personnel also responded, however the driver of the motorcycle was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck, a 2019 Ford F250, was uninjured and remained on scene.
Route 28 in the area of the crash was closed for several hours while officers from the Cape Cod Regional Crash Reconstruction Team investigated with assistance from the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Criminal Investigation. Dennis Police were also assisted by the Yarmouth Police Department.
The operator of the motorcycle involved in the fatal motor vehicle crash on May 17, 2020 in West Dennis is identified as Christoph J. Chmielewski, age 38 of South Dennis who was pronounced dead at the crash scene yesterday afternoon. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
